To introduce the concepts of the responsibilities for a Designated Person within a safety management system. It covers requirements from the International safety Management Code, Domestic Safety Management, Code vessel and Class vesse requirements: knowledge and understanding of the ISM/DSM Code; mandatory rules and regulations; applicable codes, guidelines and standards; assessment techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating and reporting; technical or operational aspects of safety management; knowledge of shipping and shipboard operations; participation in a Management System Audit; effective communications with shipboard staff and senior management.
